Time To Move On, And To Keep Watch

This morning I watched this video of Jokowi’s first speech after MK’s ruling a couple of days ago:

In that speech, Jokowi as the president-elect has made a pledge to hold on to the people’s interests. Is he sincere? Is he only making a lip service speech? Time will tell.

To both Prabowo’s and Jokowi’s supporters, in regards to the election, there is nothing more you can do for your presidential candidates. Now is the time to move on. Be you a supporter of Jokowi or not, as an Indonesian citizen, each and everyone of you has the right and obligation to keep track of Jokowi’s future action. You adore him? Fine. You despise him? Fine. Whatever your feeling toward him is, the fact remains the same: he is now the number one executive power in Indonesia; the CEO of the republic. However, unlike in a private company, a president rules by the mandate of the people. It means he rules with the people, and for the people. It means the people has the right (and obligation) to criticize and correct him whenever necessary.

Now I want you all to take a close look to the drawing mad by our talented friend Lala de Moor below:

Notice the background? Nothing fancy. No political elite. No royalty. No blue-blood. Just the people. The common people you see everyday. The common people whose freshly-washed underwear hangs on the front porch. The common people who doesn’t even know the correct spelling of Levi’s. The common people to which you belong. The common people whose mandate will soon be formally held by the new president elect. The people, the true owners of this nation.

Those who support Prabowo’s camp, accept this fact. Use your energy not to rant and curse but to keep track of the new president’s future action; not with blind prejudice, but with an open mind. This nation needs your true loyalty now more than ever.

Those who support Jokowi’s camp, don’t be flattered by this fact. Use your energy not to boast but to keep track of the new president’s future action; not with blind adoration, but with an open mind. This nation needs your true loyalty now more than ever.

Loyalty to the nation, to the country, to the flag, to the people. Not to Jokowi, not to Prabowo, not to any president.
