LUBE, The New Principles Of General Election?
This is an old article I’ve posted somewhere else. A discussion regarding Jakarta’s traffic jam in MPV WhatsApp Group this morning made me decide to re-post it here.
When I was a kid, I was taught that the principles of Indonesian general election is LUBER, which stands for Langsung (Direct), Umum (Public), BEbas (Free), and Rahasia (Secret). I had no problem with the principles.
Had.
Past tense.
I DO have a problem with it now.
It started with Yusro‘s invitation to join a petition to sack Nudirman Munir off his office. There is a note which says that we need 50 thousands votes to overcome Munir’s numbers of votes, which exceeds 30 thousands. Well and good, that’s logical enough. However, wouldn’t it be easier if it was those who voted for Munir who withdraw the mandate given to him through their votes? I think it would, if the last principle R didn’t exist.
Let’s focus on this R, shall we? What good does it make in a general election? If anything, this particular R will prevent any voter from proving that he/she voted for one particular candidate, and thus preventing all voters to withdraw their support should they want to change their mind later. Even worse, the R principle makes way for the candidates to cheat by making-up non-existent voters or re-enacting dead ones.
We need our representatives to know their place as OUR representatives. We don’t want them to act as our masters, because they are NOT, and never will be. To achieve this, we have to make them vulnerable. We have to be able to withdraw our votes when we want to. We can only do it if we can prove it, and for that the principle R must be eliminated.
To hell with LUBER!
VIVA LE LUBE!!!

I think it would, if the last principle R didn’t exist. –> Hahaha!
the R principle makes way for the candidates to cheat by making-up non-existent voters or re-enacting dead ones. –> Huh? Maksunya, Sir?
Many of the political candidates make use of dead people data and use them as their ‘voters’. They pay some people to use the dead people’s identities and vote for him using those identities.
Hah? sampe segitunya?
saya baru tahu Sir! ck ck ck
waaa…udah lupa dengan singkatan ini :))
